New Jersey Statewide Reference Center
2008 Change in Service
The New Jersey Regional Library Cooperatives no longer funds Telephone Reference Center Services as of December 31, 2007 due to a continuing precipitous decline in use. The growth of the Internet and online resources, as well as decades of work to empower local libraries has resulted in severely reduced demand for this reference referral service.
A big thank you to the current Center at Princeton Public Library and the former Center at Camden County Library who have provided excellent service in a continually downsizing environment.
For continuing backup reference support:
Starting January 2, 2008, The Newark Public Library will add general question referral (i.e., answers to questions about all subjects) to its service for libraries. As no additional compensation is being provided to The Newark Public Library, a toll-free number will not be available, so librarians statewide will want to contact the reference staff there
